Now that I've almost completed the stepper motor electronics, it was time to make a strong metal case to enclose them in. The case needs to enclose the 24V transformer, the power cord socket, a rocker switch and the actual stepper board controller. I decided to mount the fan on the outside end of the box and have air vents on the other side. The fan will draw air over the power transformer and then the stepper controller.
I had some scrap 20 guage sheet steel lying around from some old office cubicles, so I used a piece of that to make the box. I also had a flakey computer power supply lying around, so I raided it for the power cord socket and rocker switch. I also cut out one of the grille vents to use on the new case.
I marked up the bottom of the case and trimmed and cut the template.
After a couple hours of cutting, filing, cussing, bending, filing, drilling and nibbling holes, I'm happy with the results:
The finished dimensions of the case are 4" x 4" x 11".
